The Redeemed Christian Church of God has officially appointed Pastor Kayode Pitan as the new pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos.
He succeeds Pastor Charles Kpandei, who had been serving as the interim pastor following the suspension of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.
According to Church Times Nigeria, Pitan’s appointment comes after Iluyomade was suspended due to unspecified allegations.
While initial reports suggested that Pitan had already assumed his new role, it was actually Kpandei who had been leading the parish since June.
A source within the RCCG informed Church Times that Pitan’s appointment was finalized by the church’s governing council during its recent convention.
Prior to this new role, Pitan served as the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and also held the position of Regional Pastor.
Pitan’s extensive experience in the corporate sector is expected to play a key role in managing the Trinity Tower project and guiding the overall leadership of the City of David Parish. With his new appointment, Pitan now oversees Region 20, with the City of David serving as its headquarters.
Pastor Ben Akabueze has been named the Assistant Pastor in Charge of Region 20.
Meanwhile, Kpandei has returned to his previous position as Pastor in Charge of Region 11 in Lekki, following his temporary assignment at the City of David Parish.
Pitan’s appointment effectively marks the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at the City of David Parish.
Pitan, who completed his graduate studies in the United States, returned to Nigeria 37 years ago, where he made significant contributions in the banking and finance sectors.
He previously worked at Citi Bank before founding his own finance house, which unfortunately collapsed in 1993, resulting in a substantial financial loss.
This experience, however, led him to deepen his Christian faith, eventually guiding him to his current pastoral role.
The RCCG’s leadership transition at the City of David Parish reflects the church’s commitment to maintaining strong and effective leadership within its congregations.
