Random abduction of schoolgirls in North raises serious concerns – Atiku, Omokri react
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the abduction of female students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Mando in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This is just as former presidential aide, Reno Omokri condemned the criminal act which comes barely two weeks after about 300 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Niger State regain their freedom from bandits who had abducted them from their school.
In a reaction via his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Atiku, said the targeted gender of the victims raises serious concerns.
He said, “A situation where only girl students—an already vulnerable group that is playing catch-up in the North, is specifically targeted for abduction raises serious concerns,” he said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the affected students’ families, even as I urge that no resources should be spared to secure their release. The question is: how long shall we continue with this situation?”
In the same vein, Omokri, vented his anger on Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, blaming him for leading the practice of paying ransom which has opened the door for continuous abductions.
“Another mass abduction of female students in Kaduna, where their Governor, @Elrufai, foolishly began the bad practice of paying herdsmen. Mark my words, as long as ransoms are paid, these abductions will become even more random and may even move to universities,” he tweeted.
Abduction in the Northern part of Nigeria has become an issue of national importance following the abduction of over 200 girls from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists in 2014.
Another shocking abduction came in 2018 when the Boko Haram terrorist struck against and abducted 110 girls from Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe State.
