The Yobe State Hisbah Board has arrested 14 individuals, including nine females and five males, for their alleged involvement in commercial sex work and the use of illicit drugs during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Commissioner of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation in the state, Alhaji Yusuf Umar, revealed the arrests to the press on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out by Hisbah operatives in collaboration with the police on Sunday.
Umar emphasized that the suspects were apprehended for engaging in immoral acts that contradict the teachings of Islam, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan. He further stated that some of the arrested individuals would face legal prosecution, while others would undergo counseling by clerics.
“Those involved in immoral activities will face the law, while others will receive guidance from religious leaders,” Alh Umar declared.
Taking the opportunity to address the public, the commissioner advised the residents of Yobe State, particularly the youth, to refrain from participating in vices and immoral acts that could jeopardize their future and contribute to social decay.
