There was panic on Thursday evening after a heavy storm damaged the roofs of Oyo State Governor’s Office and some neighbouring shops at the Police Officers’ Wife Association complex at Sango area in Ibadan.
Vanguard reported that the heavy downpour, which fell for about an hour, paralysed commercial activities in the areas.
Several people were seen scampering for safety while others fished around the pool of water for things they can salvage from the storm.
A top government source, who craved anonymity, confirmed the incident but quickly added that the government had taken proactive actions to rectify the problem and forestall future occurrences.
He said, “You can see that government has already taken step to fix it.
“We will fix this tonight; you won’t see anything here tomorrow, if you come here.”
In a related development, traders at POWA also lamented that the storm affected their businesses.
One of the traders said, “The incident affected me and several others. I lost many things as a businessman and know others also lost huge amounts of money.
“This is not the right time for me to experience such terrible incident. May God help me,” she lamented.
