The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has cautioned residents against engaging in any illicit activities along the state’s rail tracks stating that the Rail Mass Transit Blue Line is not a marketplace.
In a statement on his official social media account on Monday, Sanwo-Olu revealed that the LRM Blue Line service was temporarily suspended during the weekend to ensure commuters’ safety.
He added that there are plans to introduce additional rail lines to enhance transportation within the state.
Furthermore, the governor noted that the LRM service had been renewed, with the number of daily trips increased from 12 to 54.
He stated that the trip frequency is expected to rise to 74 daily by the end of November, attributing this accomplishment to the diligent efforts of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (@Lamataonline).
The statement reads, “I am happy to announce that the LRMT Blue Line is back on track and energized with an increase in trips from 12 trips to 54 trips per day, and this will rise to 74 trips by the end of November, thanks to the hard work of @Lamataonline.
“The first trip starts at 6:30 a.m., and your daily commute has now become even smoother with a schedule you can plan around as well as with the Cowry Card and discounts to help you plan your expenses better.
“We temporarily paused the Blue Line this weekend for your safety, and now we have fully energized the line for a brighter future.
“Please do not attempt to access the rail tracks for any nefarious or otherwise activities, and it bears repeating that the train tracks are NOT a marketplace.
“We are on course with other activities to bring onboard more lines to make transportation easier for Lagos.
“Thank you for your patience as we continue building a better Lagos.”
