Raheem Sterling to miss Iceland clash due to calf injury

England and Manchester City forward, Raheem Sterling is set to miss the Three Lions’ UEFA Nations League clash with Iceland due to a calf injury.

England manager, Gareth Southgate confirmed the Citizen would join Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson who got injured in the 2-0 defeat to Belgium on Sunday night.

The pair have returned to their respective clubs for further assessment, according to Sky Sports.

Both players will likely miss their respective clubs’ Premier League fixtures this weekend as City face Tottenham while Liverpool face Leicester City.

Speaking before kick-off, Southgate said: “Raheem felt something a couple of days ago and didn’t train on Friday as a precaution.

“He started training on Saturday and wasn’t really happy with it. We have discussed it and it isn’t one to take a chance on.”

Speaking on Henderson’s injury after the Belgium game, Southgate said, “Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on,” after he was substituted at halftime during the Belgium game.

Hendo joins left-back Andy Robertson joined his full-back partner Trent Alexander-Arnold on the injury list after picking up a hamstring issue while on international duty with Scotland.

Alexander-Arnold was forced to withdraw from the England squad due to an injury picked up during the Reds 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
