Embattled American R&B singer, R Kelly, has been taken into custody for failing to pay over $161k in child support.

A judge in Chicago said he would be held until he paid $161,000 (£122,000) owed to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, and their three children.

According to reports, Kelly knew since last month that he had until March 6th to pay the minimum amount of $161k or be arrested.

R. Kelly arrived the court Wednesday morning, and after the hearing deputies escorted him out of the courtroom, with TMZ saying he’s been arrested.

The singer’s defence attorney said he was having financial difficulties – his finances were a “mess”.

He was prepared to pay up to $60,000 of what he owed to his former wife but the judge required the full amount.

The singer’s next court hearing is scheduled for 13 March.

Recall that R Kelly has being a subject of ridicule, mockery and has been a target of a boycott campaign.

The 52-year-old’s recording contract has been cancelled over to his horrible sexual offences.

WuzupNaija reports that R. Kelly had denied sexual abuse charges against him and broke into tears while saying he was fighting for his life, in an interview excerpt released by CBS (CBS.N) television.

In his first interview since the indictment, “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King asked Kelly about allegations that he had sex with women under 18 and that he was physically and verbally abusive.

Kelly pleaded not guilty in February to charges that he sexually assaulted three teenage girls and a woman in alleged incidents dating back to 1998, weeks after a Lifetime television documentary levelled new accusations against him.
