Quran, Bible coexist peacefully under Tinubu – Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North) has said recent remarks by United States President Donald Trump about Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, highlight the absence of tension between Islam and Christianity in Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Oshiomhole made the comment on Friday while addressing State House correspondents after a visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The former Edo State governor and All Progressives Congress chieftain said he visited the President to extend New Year greetings and to reflect on what he described as a significant moment during a recent public event in the United States, where President Trump openly acknowledged the Nigerian First Lady.

“I came to greet Mr President. I have not seen him in 2026; we wish him a happy New Year,” Oshiomhole said.

“But also, very importantly, yesterday (Thursday), we saw how the most powerful man, President Donald Trump of the United States of America, acknowledged not just the First Lady of Nigeria, but described her as a very respectable woman, a very responsible woman, and a pastor of the largest church in Nigeria, and he invited her to stand up for recognition,” he added.

Oshiomhole said the public recognition carried a deeper message about religious coexistence in Nigeria, stressing that it demonstrated mutual respect between the Quran and the Bible at the highest level of leadership.

“Trump understands that the Nigerian President is a Muslim, but he now celebrates the fact that he has a Christian wife who is also a pastor of the largest church in Nigeria,” he said.

“So, there can be no tension between the Quran and the Bible, and that, for me, is a merit to all Nigerians.”

The senator urged Nigerians to embrace unity and focus on collective progress, noting that national challenges are best addressed through cooperation rather than division.

“We mustn’t run down our country. We have issues together, we will fix them, and they are being fixed,” Oshiomhole added.
