The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Queen’s College, Lagos, Abass Ahmed, has condemned the action of a parent to one of the pupils seen in a viral video engaging in a brawl with the school’s security guards.

WuzupNigeria reports that the pupil, who was dropped off in the school by her mother, was denied entry into the school for fixing eyelashes and painting her nails. The action of the security guards didn’t sit down well with the mother who engaged the security guards in a brawl.

In the footage, the yet-to-be-identified mother was seen holding on to the shirt of one of the security guards of the school, alleging that she was assaulted by the officer.

Ahmed, however, told The Punch that the association would investigate the matter to forestall a reoccurrence.

Various reactions have also trailed the video since it went viral. Popular comedian Ali Baba also shared the viral videos on his Instagram page as he mocks the mother.

Ahmed, while condemning the action of the pupil’s mother, noted that there were laid down rules and regulations guiding pupils, adding that the association would probe the alleged assault on both parties.

He said,

“I do not subscribe to the whole negative dimension of the social media brouhaha concerning the incident, but the truth remains that every institution has rules and regulations, and in schooling, you are not just acquiring education, your character is also been moulded.

“There are things the school laid down as rules and regulations; parents are aware of what those pupils must not do. As a parent, and looking at the picture of the lady, I am ashamed as a parent that a mother could actually leave the house and bring her daughter in that state to drop her off for check in, knowing full well that the school will not condone such.

“But the incident could have been better managed by both parties and on our part, we are going to holistically look at what transpired from the perspective of eyewitnesses to correct the action of the parties involved and whatever lessons we are drawing from this one, we will take them back to our parents to let them know how to react in that kind of situation.

“On the side of the management, we will recommend a training programme for officers, who interact with the public to know that certain actions will also have repercussions.  Some videos are for internal discipline and not for public consumption.”
