One of the most renowned royal vehicles, used by Queen Elizabeth II, has been put up for sale, offering enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of history.
The Loire blue Range Rover, featuring an elegant ivory leather interior, is now seeking a new owner after being part of the royal fleet in 2016 and 2017.
This iconic car has graced numerous royal occasions, notably during a state visit by former US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle in April 2016. The couple was chauffeured in the vehicle alongside the late monarch and Prince Philip upon their arrival at Windsor Castle for a private luncheon.
Adding to its royal allure, the car retains the same number plate as when it served Queen Elizabeth II, a rarity in royal vehicle transitions, noted car salesman Jack Morgan-Jones of Bramley Motor Cars, who is listing the vehicle.
“It’s a lovely thing. It’s one of the most well-covered royal cars that was part of the royal fleet, including the Obama state visit,” remarked Mr. Morgan-Jones.
Customized for royal use, the car boasts covert lighting, specially adapted fixed steps, and police emergency lighting, along with modifications ordered by Queen Elizabeth II for enhanced accessibility.
“One of the telltale signs it was a royal service car was that the Queen had additional grab handles put into the rear to make it easier to get in and out,” explained Mr. Morgan-Jones.
Although vehicles leaving royal service typically undergo modifications to erase any indications of their regal past, the handles were unexpectedly discovered in the car’s boot beneath the spare wheel.
The car’s history includes two previous sales, initially to a longstanding client of the dealership, who incorporated it into a collection, and later to a local enthusiast captivated by its heritage.
With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the vehicle’s current owner believes it’s time for someone else to appreciate its significance.
“Some people think it’s going to be the same price as the standard Range Rover,” Mr. Morgan-Jones noted. “Obviously, this is not the case. This will be the first time it will be sold where she is no longer around anymore, so there is a premium to pay for it. Anyone can go and buy a new Ferrari, but not everyone can go and buy the Queen’s car.”
