Queens Park Rangers have fired Steve McClaren from his manager role after less than one season in charge and have appointed John Eustace in the interim.
QPR have won only once in the Championship since Boxing Day and had another dire result on Saturday, losing 2-1 at home to Bolton.
The former England manager was hired by QPR at the start of the season and was immediately under pressure when his side suffered four straight defeats.
The club’s board backed him at that time and were rewarded with an improvement in fortunes as McClaren guided Rangers — who have little financial room for manoeuvre — back towards the safety of mid-table.
Rangers remain in a reasonable position, eight points clear of the relegation zone in 17th place with seven matches remaining, but the hierarchy are thought to have become increasingly alarmed by McClaren’s inability to halt the slump.
