Pupil feared dead as suspected cult groups clash in Ibadan
A yet-to-be-identified pupil of IMG Grammar School, Ibadan was on Wednesday feared dead while a few other pupils allegedly sustained injury during a clash between pupils of the school and those of Oke-Bola Comprehensive High School in the state.
The two schools are situated in the same neighbourhood.
The students of both schools, who were involved in the clash, are suspected to be members of rival cult groups, said to be regularly engaged in fights.
A lawyer, whose office is located near the school (preferred anonymity), said the pupils of the two schools regularly engaged in bloody fights.
He said:
“On Wednesday, the pupils clashed as usual at about 1 pm. They decided to attack some people whose workshops and offices are near the schools. They also vandalized some vehicles.”
He said they specifically attacked an auto-technician workshop near their schools. By the time the attack was over, over 10 vehicles were reported to have been vandalised.
The eye witness said he expected a reprisal attack from the pupils of IMG today (Thursday) having suffered a loss on Wednesday. The victim is thought to be an SS3 student.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olugbenga Fadeyi, and the Commissioner for Education, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye were unavailable for comments.
