Paris Saint-Germain secured their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 championship on Wednesday after a composed 2–0 victory over RC Lens at the Parc des Princes, confirming their dominance in French football with a game to spare.
Although a draw would have been enough to mathematically secure the title, PSG went further, stretching their lead to nine points over Lens and putting the outcome of the season beyond doubt with only one fixture remaining.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia pounced on a defensive lapse and calmly finished after being set up by Ousmane Dembélé. Lens had earlier shown intent, but were repeatedly denied by PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, who produced a string of important saves.
Despite creating several clear openings, Lens were unable to convert. Wesley Saïd missed two notable chances before halftime, while Abdallah Sima was twice frustrated in the second half, including an effort that struck the woodwork.
PSG eventually doubled their advantage deep into stoppage time when teenager Ibrahim Mbaye fired in a powerful finish off the crossbar following a precise pass from Désiré Doué, sealing a late flourish for the champions.
Head coach Luis Enrique praised both sides after the match, highlighting the competitiveness of the contest while acknowledging the decisive role of his goalkeeper. “Without a doubt this was difficult. Lens did so well this season,” he said. “I think they deserved more tonight but Matvei Safonov was incredible.”
The result delivered PSG a record-extending 14th French league title, marking Luis Enrique’s third Ligue 1 triumph since taking charge in 2023, while also keeping their treble ambitions alive after earlier success in the French Super Cup.
Attention now shifts to PSG’s upcoming UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30 in Budapest, where they will aim to cap their season with European glory.
For Lens, focus turns to domestic cup action, with a French Cup final against OGC Nice scheduled for May 22.
