PSC to begin training for new police constables August 10

The Police Service Commission has announced that training for newly recruited police constables will start on August 10, 2024.

This follows a recent disagreement with the Nigerian Police Force over the list of successful candidates.

The dispute began after the PSC released a list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist roles on June 4.

The NPF rejected the list, claiming the recruitment process was corrupt and flawed. Despite this, the PSC decided to proceed with the list, leading to intervention by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, and other stakeholders.

In a statement on Monday, the PSC confirmed the start date for training. “The candidates are expected to confirm their status by logging into [the PSC recruitment portal](https://apply.Policerecruitment.gov.ng) to confirm further details on the training exercise,” the statement read.

Specialist applicants will begin their training two months after the general duty constables. The PSC said, “Information on the date and venues for their specialised training will be announced in due course.”

The PSC praised the applicants for their patience and promised that recruitment would continue to be merit-based and respect the Federal Character principles. The statement added, “The Commission also states that it will continue to ensure that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is based on merit and respect for the Federal Character principles.”

The PSC urged successful candidates to view their new roles as a call to duty, saying, “The Commission will monitor their training programmes to ensure that they will come out prepared to join forces in fighting the security challenges facing our nation.”
