Traffic was brought to a standstill on the Third Mainland Bridge Monday morning as residents of Oworonshoki staged a protest against the demolition of houses in their community by the Lagos State Government.

The demonstration, which started at dawn, severely disrupted movement on the inward lane of the bridge, prompting many commuters and motorists to divert to alternative routes in a bid to access the mainland.

Protesters, in large numbers, accused the state government of executing the demolition without providing adequate notice or compensation, resulting in widespread displacement and hardship for affected families.

The demolition, which reportedly began in the early hours of Saturday, was conducted by a joint enforcement team targeting unauthorized structures along the coastal lines of Lekki and Iyana Oworonshoki.

During the protest, demonstrators engaged with Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, stating firmly that they would not vacate the bridge until demolition equipment was withdrawn from their community. Security forces were later deployed to the scene to disperse the crowd and restore order, eventually reopening the obstructed lane to traffic.
