Protesters took to the streets in various parts of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state to offer condolences.

The demonstration began shortly after the President landed at the Nigeria Air Force Base in Makurdi at approximately 12:58 p.m.

President Tinubu’s visit was in response to a recent deadly attack in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area, where more than 100 people reportedly lost their lives in an assault by suspected armed herders.

As part of his visit, the President stopped at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where many survivors of the attack are currently receiving medical care.

Eyewitnesses described the protests as spontaneous, with demonstrators gathering near several key locations in the city.

A social media user, @I_Am_Ilemona, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that one protest site appeared to be in the vicinity of the Government House in Makurdi.

As of the time of reporting, the protesters’ specific demands and grievances remained unclear.

However, the demonstrations signal mounting frustration and public outrage over the persistent violence affecting communities across the state.
