Protest: Drop fuel price to N200, Delta youth forum begs Tinubu
The Egbema Youth Political Forum has asked President Bola Tinubu to lower the price of fuel to N200 per liter.
They made this request in response to the ongoing protests by Nigerians facing severe economic hardship.
In a statement released on Monday in Warri, Delta State, the group praised the protesters for their determination and their right to protest as stated in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution.
The statement was signed by Chairman Ebigbagha Baidi, Secretary Karina Yoroki, Spokesman Ebiterigha Ejemi, and Legal Adviser Odimiyentimi Eyenmi.
The statement said, “We join other aggrieved Nigerians and appeal to the Federal Government that the price of premium motor spirit, popularly known as fuel, should be reviewed and reduced to N200. Reducing fuel prices will lower the cost of other goods and make life more affordable for Nigerians. We also urge the government to review some economic policies that are causing hardship.”
The Forum expressed disappointment with President Tinubu’s recent speech on August 4, 2024. They believe the speech failed to address the key demands of the protesters and was more of a warning for Nigerians to accept the current situation.
The EYPF also called on President Tinubu to ensure that security personnel act professionally while dealing with peaceful protesters. They stressed that the primary duty of the President and security agents is to protect lives and property, not to harm them. The statement concluded, “We urge President Tinubu to advise the security forces to respect human rights and avoid abuse during these protests.”
