Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed has declared a 24-hour curfew in Katagum Local Government Area due to rising violence following last Tuesday’s End Bad Governance protest.
The governor’s decision was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim. The statement explained that the curfew was imposed due to violent incidents, including the destruction of public property, theft, and victimization in the area.
Governor Mohammed has directed all security agencies to “take swift action to address the situation, apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.” He also urged “law-abiding citizens to support security efforts during this challenging time.”
At least 52 protesters were arrested last Friday for alleged violent activities related to the demonstration, which began on Thursday in Bauchi State.
State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, provided an update, saying that a policeman was injured during the protests. The CP noted that the arrests were made for breaches of public order and unlawful assembly across the state.
