Protest as policemen allegedly rape Abia Poly’s new intake

Students of Abia State Polytechnic on Thursday carried out a demonstration over alleged rape of an 18-year-old female student by officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Aba, Abia State.

The aggrieved students who staged the protest in the school premises were seen chanting soldariy songs and displaying placards with various inscriptions airing their grievances, Siggy reports.

Some students who spoke on anonymous ground claimed security operatives attached to the State RRS officers had arrested six of their colleagues, three boys and three girls, at a lodge close to the school on Wednesday.

They alleged that five students were released after allegedly extorting them, leaving behind an 18-year-old new intake who they later got to know was defiled by the operatives.

Following their protest, the semester examination earlie,r scheduled to commence yesterday, was postponed till further notice.
