Probe presidential poll results upload failure, Jega tells INEC
Former INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, has called on the commission to investigate the failure to upload the presidential poll results to the IReV portal.
In an interview with ARISE Television on Tuesday evening, Jega said that while the BVAS card reader had a 95% success rate, the failure to upload the results was a major failure.
“I believe that we need to interrogate why that uploading specifically with presidential elections failed,” he said. “This needs to be done not just by INEC but in a very transparent manner. I think there will be a lot of revelations as to what happened.”
Jega also called on INEC to improve its communication strategy and avoid accusing its chairman of compromise without carrying out proper investigations.
“INEC needs to improve in strategic communication,” he said. “Why was there slowness in providing information? I believe very strongly that maybe they were trying to find out what exactly happened and that the delay regrettably had its own consequences.”
“I believe that a thorough investigation will reveal what happened and hopefully will show Nigerians that it is not something deliberate that the INEC Chairman did because he was compromised,”Jega added.
