Prisoners set correctional service centres on fire in Delta

Inmates in Sapele has reportedly set the Sapele Correctional Service centre on fire for lack of food and water in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was also learnt that the inmates set the Sapele correctional centres centre on fire because Twenty-sive (25) inmates were granted amnesty by the state government, but only three (3) person has been released why others are yet to be released.

SOUTHERN CITY NEWS gathered that the incident started about 8 am, that the inmates are protesting for lack of food and water.

It was also learnt that the inmates are not adequately taking care of in Sapele correctional centres.

Security agencies have taken over the correctional centres to ensure that no inmate escaped.

Sources said that “no inmate has escaped, but the inmates are angry because they are not taking care of adequately.

“The Sapele Correctional service has been set on fire by prisoners who said they lack food and water.

“Twenty-sive (25) inmates were granted amnesty by the state government, but only three (3) person has been released, why others are yet to be released.”

The Senior Special Adviser on Security matters to the Governor and Chairman of the LG chairman, Hon Eugene Inoaghan have been on ground strategising on how to calm the inmates down.
