Priscilla Ojo links mother’s office fire to wedding threat

Priscilla, daughter of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, has alleged that the fire that engulfed her mother’s Lagos office was a targeted attack, linking the incident to a threat letter received weeks earlier during her wedding in Tanzania.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, Iyabo Ojo showed the aftermath of the fire incident, including charred furniture, smoke-stained walls, and debris scattered across the office staircase and hallway.

“This just happened today, the 8th of July 2025, around 7 pm. My office building caught fire,” she wrote.

Expressing gratitude, the actress said no lives were lost and commended the Nigerian Fire Service and her staff for their swift response in containing the situation.

“Thankfully, no lives were lost. The devil tested us today, but God said no. With God on my side, we will bounce back bigger and better,” she stated.

While the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Priscilla claimed the incident might have been premeditated. She said the family had earlier received a threat letter during her wedding festivities with Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, describing the document as a deliberate attempt to sabotage the union.

According to her, the letter was signed by an anonymous group identifying itself as the ‘Aggrieved Group’ and warned the family of an impending attack, stating that they were being monitored. The message also vowed to destroy the marriage and ensure Priscilla would not enjoy her new life. “You put someone in trouble and you’re out enjoying giving your daughter in marriage, right? O ma laya o (you have the effrontery). You can’t escape in the next three months, as we are out monitoring you. Watch out. We shall render your daughter married useless and rubbish, and scatter it. That your daughter will not enjoy her marriage. We are all there on that wedding day. Watch and see—‘Aggrieved Group’,” the letter read.

Priscilla stated that the letter went unnoticed until her mother returned from the wedding trip and discovered it. She explained that additional CCTV surveillance has now been installed both at their residence and office to support police investigations. “Sadly, on the 24th of May, this letter was delivered to my mother’s office [the same one that was engulfed in fire yesterday]. Strictly speaking, it was a threat to life and a strategy to ruin JP2025. Fortunately, she was en route to Tanzania for my wedding, which didn’t give her the opportunity to read the threat letter till her return.

“We shall eventually detect the face of the delivery agent and show the public and the police at the right time, even though more CCTV has been mounted both in her office and at home. The unfortunate incident of yesterday, 8th July, 2025, is their Plan B as their plans to ruin JP2025 failed woefully! A close look and reading at the threat letter, it read in parts, ‘that in the next three months, they would be monitoring us’!

“Wondering an office my mother owned for eight years! This is deep, while a lot of questions are begging for answers and investigations. So much has been happening that I can’t even talk about it here, but I just want to put it out here. You can’t silence my mother with all of these threats and criminal acts. God is stronger than any evil, and time will surely tell,” she wrote.

The Ojo family has recently come under public attention following controversies surrounding Priscilla’s wedding. In June, Iyabo Ojo was involved in a social media dispute with Tanzanian blogger Mange Kimambi, who criticised the couple for allegedly diverting attention from ongoing political issues in Tanzania. Kimambi had described the wedding content as a distraction and warned the couple to stay away from political discourse.

In her response, Iyabo Ojo defended her family and condemned the blogger’s comments. “I’m appalled by your audacity! Calling their content stupid and trying to drum up fear and intimidation is unacceptable. Keep my daughter out of your affairs. She doesn’t need you to love her. She is very loved and well-loved. We protect our own,” she wrote.
