Prince Afolabi Olaoye installed as new Soun of Ogbomoso against court order

Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye has been officially declared as the new Soun of Ogbomoso in Nigeria, following his installation in the early hours of Friday.

This event occurred despite a recent court order that directed the Oyo State governor and others to withhold presenting the instrument of office to him.

Justice K.A Adedokun of High Court 2 of the Oyo State High Court, Ogbomoso Judicial Division, issued the court order on Thursday.

It restrained the Governor of Oyo State, the Attorney General, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Oyo State from presenting any instrument of office to Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Oladunni Olaoye until the court hears and finalizes the mandatory injunction case.

The court also prohibited Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Oladunni Olaoye from assuming any ceremonial roles or representing himself as a candidate for the issuance of an installation certificate or wearing any attire resembling that of the Soun of Ogbomoso Chieftaincy until the court’s mandatory injunction case is resolved.

Despite the court’s orders, Olaoye’s installation proceeded at Abata in Ogbomosjo, led by the kingmakers, with High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin serving as the principal officiator.

During the installation ceremony, the kingmakers stated that they had not received any court-issued injunction that would prevent them from installing Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
