The personal assistant to the president on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, has confirmed the defection of Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Matawalle, who contested and won under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will formally join the ruling party on Tuesday, after months of denial.

“So Zamfara is back home!” Mr Ahmad said on Facebook early Sunday morning, adding, “Welcome Matawalle.”

His defection comes barely a month after Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State dumped the party on whose platform he was elected and re-elected.
