Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has shared how being pregnant affected her singing ability during the making of her album, R.E.D.

Speaking during an interview on Afrobeats Intelligence, the award-winning artiste said she had to adjust her music because her voice range changed while she was expecting her child.

“I was pregnant when I recorded R.E.D. I would be in the studio crying with my big belly. It was a struggle to record the album,” she said.

Tiwa explained that some of the songs on the album had to be changed because she could no longer hit high notes the way she used to. “I changed the key of some of the songs in the album because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes,” she added.

She also recalled how her label at the time, Mavin Records, supported her through the process. “I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin. So whenever they noticed my energy was going down, Jazzy would tell them to get me my cravings, which were eggs and bread,” she said.

Tiwa Savage joined Mavin Records, owned by Don Jazzy, in 2012 and stayed with the label until 2019, when she signed with Universal Music Group.
