Tottenham manager, Ange Postecoglou, has strongly criticized the Video Assistant Referee after his team’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
Postecoglou was unhappy with the decision to cancel Pape Matar Sarr’s goal, which could have given Spurs a lifeline in the match.
Two goals were disallowed in the game.
Moises Caicedo thought he had doubled Chelsea’s lead shortly after Enzo Fernandez’s header, but VAR ruled it out because Levi Colwill was in an offside position.
Later, Sarr scored a stunning long-range goal, and referee Craig Pawson initially allowed it. However, after a long VAR review, the goal was overturned.
The Premier League later confirmed that both goals were ruled out after careful checks.
Speaking after the match, Postecoglou expressed his frustration and said the use of VAR is damaging the game.
“It’s killing the game, mate. It’s not the same game as it used to be,” he said.
“The referee gave it and then needed six minutes to rule the goal out. It’s crazy, mate. It’s madness.”
With this loss, Tottenham remain in 14th place, while Chelsea’s win moves them into the top four.
