Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been released after Fuji music legend Saheed Osupa decided to withdraw the legal case filed against him.
Osupa had earlier taken legal action against Portable over allegations of criminal defamation, cyberbullying, threat to life, and public misconduct. The singer was arrested by the Kwara State Police Command and remanded in prison after failing to meet bail conditions.
The court had granted him bail at ₦1 million, with two sureties. One of the sureties had to be approved by the Chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria.
However, Osupa’s management released a statement on Monday announcing that the case was being dropped on the singer’s instruction. The decision came after several Nigerians appealed to Osupa on behalf of Portable, who had remained in custody due to his inability to meet bail requirements.
The statement read, “The legal action previously instituted against Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been formally withdrawn on the instruction of Osupa himself.”
It added that the case was never personal but meant to discourage public misconduct and protect intellectual property rights.
But the withdrawal comes with conditions. Portable must:
Publicly withdraw his statement accusing Saheed Osupa of being a threat to his life.
Admit that the claim by his lawyer, Chief Isaac Adebayo — that Osupa held Portable’s legs while begging for forgiveness — was false.
Sign a legal document promising not to defame or bully anyone online or offline in the future.
The statement warned that failure to meet these conditions may lead to the case being reopened.
“If these conditions are not met, the case may be reinstated,” the statement said.
Portable has not yet made a public response at the time of this report.
