The Vatican has announced that members of the public will be allowed to visit the tomb of Pope Francis from Sunday, April 27, 2025.

This was revealed by Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni, who said the late pope’s tomb is located at the Santa Maria Maggiore basilica in Rome.

Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday at the age of 88, will be buried after a funeral service at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. His body will then be moved to its final resting place at the Roman basilica.

Bruni said, “Visitors will be able to see the Holy Father’s tomb as early as Sunday morning.”

Thousands of mourners have already gathered in Rome over the past few days to pay their last respects. Pope Francis, who led the Catholic Church for over a decade, was known for his humility, social teachings, and efforts to bring reform to the Vatican.

Further details about the funeral and burial arrangements are expected in the coming days.
