Pope Francis, 88, fell at his residence in the Vatican, bruising his right forearm.

The Vatican press office confirmed on Thursday that the pope did not break any bones but is wearing a sling as a precaution.

The incident occurred at the Santa Marta residence, where Pope Francis lives. In a statement, the Vatican said, “This morning, due to a fall at the Santa Marta house, Pope Francis suffered a contusion on his right forearm, without fractures. The arm was immobilized as a precautionary measure.”

This marks the pope’s second fall in recent months. In December 2024, he sustained a bruise on his jaw after falling from his bed.

Pope Francis has faced several health issues in recent years, including pain in his knee and hip, recurring bronchitis, and the need for a wheelchair since 2022. Despite these challenges, he remains active in his duties.

Last September, the pope completed a four-nation trip, his longest journey in terms of both time and distance since becoming head of the Catholic Church in 2013.
The news has sparked concern among Catholics worldwide. A Vatican observer, Maria De Luca, said, “This reminds us of the pope’s advancing age, but his commitment to his role is remarkable.”

A parishioner in Lagos, Chinedu Okafor, commented, “We are praying for his quick recovery. Pope Francis continues to inspire us with his resilience.”

The Vatican assured that the pope’s condition is stable, and he will continue his duties as planned.
