PDP govs urge NASS to approve e-transmission of election result
Governors elected under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party have urged the National Assembly to approve electronic transmission of election results.
WuzupNigeria reported that the National Assembly was divided last week as senators, mostly from the All Progressive Congress, voted against the usage of e-transmission of election results, while senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party voted in favour of the reform, making “for or against” a party affair.
However, Nation reports that the PDP Governors’ Forum, after meeting in Bauchi State on Monday, insisted the National Assembly must enact laws to make it possible.
“On the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, the Governors identified the need for a free, fair and credible elections in the country and called on the National Assembly to entrench Electronic transmission of results of elections in the nation’s electoral jurisprudence,” Chairman of the Governors’ forum, Waziri Tambuwa said in a ten-point -communique at the end of the meeting.
Tambuwal who is the Governor of Sokoto State also requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy appropriate technologies necessary to ensure votes of all Nigerians count.
