*El-Rufai loses polling unit to PDP in local government poll*
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday lost his Polling Unit at Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna North Local Government Area to the opposing Peoples Democratic Party.
The result was announced by the Presiding Officer, Muhammad Sani, in Kaduna.
The elections were conducted using electronic voting machines.
Sani disclosed that out of the total vote of 159, the PDP polled 86 votes as against the APC’s 62 votes for the chairmanship position.
In the councillorship result announced, the opposition party also trounced the ruling party with 100 votes against 53.
El-Rufai, a member of the All Progressive Congress, had earlier voted at the polling unit where he also declared that he is not desperate to win at all costs, but to improve the voting process using the Electronic Voting Machine.
He had stated that electronic voting machine used in the election is an improvement over the one used in the 2018 local government elections, where multiple voting were experienced.
The governor further disclosed that the introduction of the electronic voting system by his administration has clearly shown that the APC-led government in Kaduna state does not believe in cheating or rigging election.
In the same vein, the State Independent Electoral Commission had suspended elections in four local government Areas in the state due to security concerns.
The suspension of polls at the four LGAs was announced by SIECOM’s Chairman, Saratu Dikko-Audu.
The affected LGAs are Chikun, Kajuru, Birnin- Gwari and Zango-Kataf.
Sources said that there was a noticeable voters’ apathy in some parts of the state during the polls.
