JUST IN: Supreme Court affirms INEC’s deregistration of 74 political parties
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which earlier approved the deregistration of 74 political parties including the National Unity Party.
According to the PUNCH, the affected political parties fell under the hammer of the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2020 for failing to win any election during the 2019 general elections.
Delivering the judgment on Friday, Justice Adamu Jauro, said that NUP’s deregistration is not in any way illegal and according to him, the decision was done in line with the laws and compliance with the extant provisions of the Constitution and Electoral Act.
