Ex-CBN Deputy Governor Obadiah Mailafiya dies at 64

Published

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Obadiah Mailafiya, has been reported dead.

The ex-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress was aged 64.

Mailafiya, who is known to be a strong critic of the administration of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), died in the early hours of Sunday after battling a protracted illness.

In September 2020, WuzupNigeria had reported how he got into trouble with the Department of State Services over his interview on Nigeria Info 99.3FM wherein he claimed that a repentant terrorist told him that a northern governor was a Boko Haram commander.

It was the third time the federal security agency handed him such invitation over what became his trademark controversial and scathing remarks against the present administration.

When contacted, the ex-CBN deputy governor didn’t deny it “It is true. I have been invited to their office in Jos. I was asked to appear at 11 am on Monday.” .

The former deputy governor of the apex bank had also claimed that during the lockdown, weapons were distributed to several parts of the country, adding that terrorists had infiltrated Lagos.

However, at the height of constant harassment by security agencies, Mailafia was forced to withdraw his comment, stating that he got the information from a third party.
