A police woman in Onitsha, Anambra State, Inspector Charity Oyor has been rewarded with N250,000 by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, for her integrity and professionalism.
According press release by the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police woman, Inspector Charity Oyor, was on traffic duty in the Main Market on Wednesday, when she spotted a shuttle bus carrying six bundles of stripped armoured cable. She became suspicious and stopped the driver to question him about the source of the cable.
“The Policewoman, Inspector Charity Oyor who was on traffic duty in the market on Wednesday, 23rd August, 2023, saw a shuttle bus carrying six heavy bundles of stripped armoured cable suspected to have been stolen driving past.
“She stopped the driver and inquired about the consignment from the purported owner who, rather than explain how he came to be in possession of the cable, offered her a bribe which she rejected – Part of the statement read
Inspector Oyor refused the bribe and called her Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Superintendent Joy Chidinma Ikpeama, who led a team of police personnel to the scene and arrested the driver. The cable was seized and taken to the police station for investigation.
At the station, the driver again offered N500,000 to be released which the officers rejected the and reported the case to the Commissioner of Police.
The Commissioner of Police ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Awka to take over the case and find out where the cable came from.
To reward Inspector Joy for her honesty honesty and diligence, the commissioner presented a cash award of N250,000 to her.
He commended the DPO for providing good leadership and urged all personnel in the command to uphold the ethics of the profession and resist any form of compromise in their duties.
