A police sergeant in Maiduguri, Borno State, has shot and killed his father, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, after an argument on Sunday.

The sergeant, identified as Linus Wadzani, is a member of the Mobile Police Force stationed at the Borno State House of Assembly.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident. He said that Linus returned home around 4:30 PM and got into a heated argument with his father, ASP Wadzani Ntasiri. “Sgt Linus shot his father multiple times with an AK47 rifle, causing his instant death,” Daso explained.

The shooting occurred at the family’s home in the Modugannari area of Maiduguri. According to a family member, Sgt Linus found his father alone at home when he returned, so no one else witnessed the incident.

The police received a distress call and quickly sent a patrol team to the scene. The team disarmed Linus and took the AK47 rifle. During questioning, Linus admitted he was drunk and under the influence of other substances when he shot his father.

The PPRO said, “A forensic team from the command has collected blood samples from Sgt Linus to determine his mental state before the crime.” He also warned, “We advise the public, especially those selling alcohol, not to sell to any police officers on duty.”

The incident is under investigation as authorities work to understand how it happened and ensure justice is served.
