A police officer in Edo State has allegedly raped a female suspect in custody, sparking outrage and calls for justice after a disturbing video surfaced online.

The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by an anonymous user @Ob!Alus! on Monday, shows the officer putting on his clothes while a young woman is seen lying in apparent pain on a chair. The post read: “Nigerian police raped a female suspect at a police station💔😭😭. I may not have a voice, but please, Nigerians help and give this girl the justice she deserves 🙏🙏😭😭.”

In the video, a woman filming the scene is confronted by the police to which she responds, “You want to put me in trouble abi? Why won’t I record? you want to put me in trouble abi?”

The video has triggered strong reactions across social media platforms, with many expressing anger and frustration at the police force.

One X user, @HonAdaora, wrote: “I’m sick and tired of injustices happening and these bastards getting off the hook. He’s knocked her out or something and then proceeded to violate her. Justice should be swift, and I don’t care how or where it comes from! Do you have details, please?”

Another user, @Machala_D, voiced concerns about the state of the police force: “When I tell people the police is not my friend, they think I’m being harsh. But the truth is that the Nigerian police is rotten. You all can say it’s just a few bad eggs, but we know the truth. Most of them are not mentally fit to be in the force.”

Similarly, @Ajthomas expressed disbelief, writing, “This is a beast. How can you do such a terrible thing? 😭😭😭. The Nigeria Police need to overhaul their recruitment and disciplinary process. I can’t believe this is happening in the 21st century.”

Another user, @OgeUdegbunam, tagged the Nigerian Police Force, saying, “@PoliceNG, is this what you trained them to do? Is the police still our friend, or should we consider them enemies? Why should this happen? Why???”

The outrage continued as @Mubaraq_A_Oni tweeted: “There’s something inherently wrong with the NPF. Every police station you enter feels like a crime scene. It’s cultural, and there’s motivation to pass the toxic behavior to every new recruit. These people are just animals.”

The incident has raised urgent calls for accountability and reform within the Nigerian police force, with many demanding swift and transparent justice for the victim.
