Residents of Okwelle in Imo State were on Friday thrown into a panic after a policeman allegedly killed a heavy-duty vehicle conductor over N100 bribe.
According to reports,a police officer serving at Okwelle Police headquarter shot dead a Tipper conductor this morning at Okwelle in Imo State.
The deceased who is the only son of his parents from Okigwe was said to be shot when the driver refused to give N100 to the police.
Pictures of the incident have gone viral on social media with one Instagram user, @abuse_survivor, saying the incident was a “Classic example of men in Uniform taking advantage of the vulnerable people they are sworn and paid to serve. I recall vividly as a child from the 90s that the present 100 naira extortion by men of the @nigerianpoliceforce started as ‘Oga, anything for your boys?’; ‘Oga your boys dey sun oh!’ ‘Madam your pikin wan drink pure water oh!’
I wish our leaders had gotten the willpower to nip it in the bud back then. We wouldn’t be where we are today. Now extortion has been institutionalised by our men in Uniform.”
