Police warn against protests over school abductions

The Kebbi State Police Command has cautioned groups and non-governmental organisations against staging any protest over the recent abduction at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

Police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar issued the warning in a statement on Friday, urging organisers to suspend their plans, noting that the current security atmosphere is too fragile for public demonstrations.

He explained that any gathering at this time could heighten tension and potentially trigger violence.

The Command acknowledged the widespread concern over the kidnapping but described the planned protest as “misguided and counterproductive,” warning that it could interfere with ongoing rescue operations aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted students.

The police reassured residents that safeguarding lives and preserving peace remain their highest priority.

They also called on the public to promptly report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station or relevant security agency.

The warning came just days after armed men attacked the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, and abducting dozens of girls.

Witnesses reported that the gunmen operated freely without resistance, spreading panic across the community.

Makuku was said to have been shot dead while attempting to protect the students.
