The Adamawa State Police Command has cautioned schools and individuals against the unauthorized use of police and military uniforms after photos of students wearing the outfits went viral on social media.
The images showed students dressed in the uniforms during a school costume event, engaging in what the police described as indecent behavior that disrespects security agencies.
In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, considered the act a criminal offence and ordered a full investigation.
“The unauthorized use of police uniforms is a serious offence punishable by law. Such acts not only undermine the integrity of our security agencies but also mislead the public and will not be tolerated,” the statement quoted Dankombo as saying.
Nguroje urged schools and individuals to seek proper clearance before using police or military uniforms, stressing that the command would enforce the law without compromise.
“Anyone found engaging in this illegal practice will be decisively dealt with according to the law,” he warned.
