The Lagos State Police Command has launched a special tactical security outfit known as the “Command Sweepers Squad” to combat rising insecurity and criminal activities in Ikorodu and neighbouring communities.

According to The Punch, the initiative was introduced by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, following growing concerns and public complaints over criminal incidents in parts of the Ikorodu axis.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command described the squad as a temporary intervention force created to restore public confidence and strengthen security operations in the area.

The statement explained that the squad consists of personnel drawn from various tactical formations, including the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force units, as well as officers from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

The squad has been stationed in Ijede to ensure rapid deployment and effective response operations across Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

To improve operational efficiency, the police command also equipped the team with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

“The Squad has been strategically deployed to identify black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence led operations, raids, stop and search duties, and confidence building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements,” the statement said.

The command assured residents that the operations would be conducted professionally and in line with the rule of law, while urging members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
