The Ondo State Police Command has busted a suspected baby factory in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, rescuing five pregnant underage girls from the facility.

The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said in a statement on Sunday that the illegal operation was run by a woman identified as Ada Clement, who allegedly sold newborns for between N400,000 and N600,000.

According to the police, the case was first reported on October 21, 2025, when a 17-year-old girl from Akwa Ibom State, Vivian Peter, escaped from the facility and alerted the Ore Police Division.

Ayanlade said Vivian was trafficked from Akwa Ibom to Ore under the pretext of being offered a job. Upon arrival, she was taken to what she thought was a clinic, but it turned out to be a baby factory where several other pregnant girls were being held.

“She managed to escape when she was asked to go for a medical scan at another hospital and reported the case to the police,” Ayanlade explained.

He said operatives from the Ore Division, working with the command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit, raided the location and rescued the victims, including one who had already delivered a baby boy.

The rescued girls and the newborn are now under police protection, while the woman who had given birth is receiving postnatal care at the General Hospital, Ore.

Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect and her accomplices confessed to running the facility as a baby factory, where young pregnant girls were kept until delivery before their babies were sold.

Ayanlade said, “The babies were sold for N400,000 and above for female children, and N600,000 and above for male children.”

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, had ordered a full investigation to track down other members of the syndicate who fled before the police raid.

“The command will ensure that all those involved in this inhuman act are arrested and prosecuted,” Ayanlade stated.

He also mentioned that detectives from the Gender-Based Violence Unit are working to arrest the remaining suspects linked to the crime.
