Police to discipline officers in cash-sharing video

The Kano State Police Command has promised disciplinary action against officers filmed in a viral video assisting politicians to share money.

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, was initially believed to be from the recent by-elections in the state.

But the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained in a statement on Tuesday that the incident actually took place on July 10, 2025, after a ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House.

“The investigation revealed the officers were deployed for security at the event, during which they were regrettably seen engaging in unprofessional conduct,” Kiyawa said.

He stressed that the video had no connection with the re-run and by-elections held on Saturday.

“The Command assures the public that appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken against the erring officers to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.

“We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and ethics while ensuring the trust and confidence of the public,” the statement added.
