Police in Delta State have concluded arrangements to arraign a couple before a court in the state for allegedly stage-managing the kidnap of their daughter.
A police source, according to The PUNCH on Tuesday morning said the police discovered that the purportedly kidnap incident was a ruse and the next line of action was to prosecute the husband and wife “for raising a false alarm”.
The 21-year-old daughter of the couple who was purportedly kidnapped was a staff of a popular commercial bank in Warri, Delta State.
It was gathered that the police arrested the parents on Sunday night after the operatives who had been monitoring the incident received intelligence reports that the parents had allegedly stage-managed their daughter’s abduction.
The police had reported that the 21-year-old lady, Stephine Solomon Oghenevoke, was missing. She reportedly left home on July 19, 2021, around 0820hrs to work at Okumagba Estate and had not returned since then.
The police said that all efforts made to trace her whereabouts ever since had proved abortive and called on anyone with useful information of her whereabouts to report to the ‘B’ Division Warri, Asaba, or the nearest station.
The police source alleged that Stephine Solomon helped her parents to secure a loan of N17million from the bank where she worked.
But the business for which the loan was acquired failed and the bank repeatedly requested the repayment of the loan.
However, the couple in an attempt to raise money to defray the loan had purportedly resorted to stage-managing their daughter’s kidnap.
Meanwhile, the alleged kidnap victim was reportedly arrested by operatives of the ‘B’ Division, Warri, on Tuesday morning and she is presently helping the police in their investigations, security sources said.
When contacted, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the embattled father was in police custody in Warri.
The PPRO could not however give further details on the incident.
