The Katsina State Police Command has intensified security in schools to protect students and staff following rising attacks and abductions in northern Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bello Shehu, directed the Coordinator of the School Protection Squad to activate all safety mechanisms in schools.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, Shehu said the move came after “a meeting with tactical commanders to review the command’s general security strategies in the state.”

He explained that the directive aligns with instructions from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, “to prioritise safety and security around educational institutions.”

The commissioner also ordered “deployment of additional resources to ensure the security especially in educational institutions” across the state.

Shehu urged residents to support police efforts, advising the public “to timely report suspicious activities or concerns to the command” to help safeguard schools and communities.

WuzupNigeria earlier reported that increasing attacks on schools and student abductions in northern states such as Kebbi and Niger have led some governments to order full or temporary closures of schools to protect students.
