The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued two students of the Federal University of Lafia who were abducted from their lodge on March 30.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, said the students, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were taken by gunmen from a lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.

“On March 30, at about 9:20 pm, we received a distress call of an attack at a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.

“During the attack, two students of the Federal University, Lafia, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted.

“Acting swiftly on the directive of Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, were mobilized to track down the perpetrators,” the statement read.

Nansel explained that, using technical intelligence, the rescue team traced the victims to a forest behind the 500-housing unit along Doma Road.

“The team engaged them in a gun duel in the forest, and the police firepower overwhelmed them. They fled in different directions and abandoned the victims, who were safely rescued,” he said.

One suspect, identified as Ibrahim Musa from Abuni village in Awe Local Government Area, was arrested at the scene. Nansel noted that the suspect had made useful confessions and was assisting the ongoing investigation.

He also conveyed the Commissioner of Police’s appreciation to the anti-kidnapping unit for their relentless efforts in securing the students’ release.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling crime in the state and urged officers to remain resolute in their mission to rid Nasarawa of criminal activities.
