The Borno State Police Command has rescued two young boys, aged four and five, who were abducted in the Jan Block area of Jere Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso, said in a statement on Friday that the command swung into action after a report was filed on December 4 about three missing children.
He said, “On 4 December 2025, a report of three missing children was received at the Jere Divisional Headquarters, which led to an immediate investigation.”
According to him, later that same day, one of the abducted children was returned to his family home in Jere. He was dropped at the entrance of the house with a note demanding ten million naira as ransom for the two other boys still in captivity.
Daso explained that officers set up surveillance at the location where the kidnappers had instructed the ransom to be delivered. He said, “On 5 December 2025, our operatives laid an ambush at the proposed ransom spot. Around 3am, the abductors noticed police movement and fled, leaving behind the two boys and the decoy ransom.”
The police said the suspects escaped because visibility was poor at that time. But the two boys were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.
Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has ordered a full investigation to track down the fleeing suspects. He also instructed tactical commanders and divisional officers to increase patrols, carry out stop and search operations and maintain strong visibility across the state to reduce crime.
The command urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
