The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a three-year-old boy who was earlier reported stolen and arrested six members of a child-stealing syndicate allegedly operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos states.
The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Sunday that the incident was reported on September 4, 2025, prompting an immediate investigation by operatives of the Gender Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.
According to the police, the complainant’s daughter had left her son in the care of one Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno, but both the child and Ibe went missing shortly after.
Ikenga said, “Swift investigative actions led to the arrest of the said Samuel Ibe. His confessional statement led to the arrest of his mother, 35-year-old Agatha Ejeweh, and his 15-year-old brother, Ejeweh Chidera.”
Further investigations extended to Enugu State, where another suspect, 30-year-old Angela Eze, was arrested for working with one Juliet Onah to facilitate the transfer of the stolen child to Lagos.
The police later traced the syndicate to Lagos State, where one China Cosmas was apprehended, and the missing child was rescued safely.
“The child has since been reunited with his family in good health,” Ikenga said, adding that all suspects are in custody and would be charged to court after investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and assured that Anambra remains unsafe for any form of criminal activity.
