The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued six people who were kidnapped along the Anka-Gummi Road in the state’s north-west region.
Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Yazid Abubakar, announced the rescue in a statement on Friday, saying it was part of efforts to restore peace and security in the state.
“The Police Command has successfully rescued six kidnap victims following a swift search-and-rescue operation,” the statement read.
He explained that the breakthrough happened on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, at about 1:45 p.m., when a joint team of police officers and Community Protection Guards (CPG) found an abandoned ash-coloured Peugeot 206 by the roadside during a routine patrol.
“Suspecting a kidnapping case, the team quickly began a search operation,” he said. “This led to the safe rescue of all six victims.”
Those rescued were identified as Hon. Bakiru Masama, Dan Masama, Aminu Bukkuyum, Ahmad Masama, Umar Jema, and Shehu Mulluwa. According to the police, they have all been reunited with their families.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maikaba, praised the security team for their fast response and promised that efforts would continue until all kidnapped victims in the state are freed.
He added, “The Zamfara State Police Command remains committed to working with other security agencies to rescue victims, fight crime, and protect lives and property.”
The Commissioner also called on the public to stay alert and report any suspicious movement or persons to the nearest police station.
