Police in Katsina State have rescued seven people who were kidnapped and recovered stolen items in two separate operations.

The police spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, provided details about the operations.

He said, “Today, August 14th, 2024, at about 4:30 AM, we received a distress call at the Danmusa Divisional Police Headquarters. Armed bandits had attacked Yan Shantuma village in Danmusa Local Government Area. They kidnapped three people, stole twenty-three goats, and took food and valuables from the villagers.”

Aliyu continued, “The Divisional Police Officer of Danmusa quickly mobilized police officers and worked with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps. They ambushed the bandits at Tashar Ice village while the bandits were trying to escape. There was a firefight, and the bandits fled with gunshot injuries. All kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed, and the stolen items were recovered.”

In a separate operation on the previous day, the police received information about an abandoned vehicle suspected to be linked to a kidnapping.

“The DPO at Safana Divisional Police Headquarters quickly assembled a search team. They combed the area around the abandoned vehicle and found four people inside. The team engaged in a fierce gun battle with the suspected kidnappers. The rescued individuals were taken to the hospital for medical care,” Aliyu said. “We are continuing efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects as the investigation progresses.”

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the officers for their successful operations. He urged them to maintain their efforts in the fight against crime.
