The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old kidnap victim, apprehended three suspects, and recovered N930,000 from ransom proceeds allegedly paid by the child’s family.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the case was reported on April 19 after a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area raised alarm over the abduction of his son, Aliyu Muhammad, who was taken by unidentified individuals in front of their residence.
According to the police, the abductors initially demanded a ransom of N1 million, which was paid by the family, but the child was not released afterward.
Following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to intensify efforts to trace those responsible.
Acting on technical intelligence, security operatives tracked down the suspects’ location and arrested Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters.
Preliminary findings showed that the victim had been kept at Saminu’s residence within the area. The child was subsequently rescued without injuries and reunited with his family.
Police also confirmed the recovery of N930,000 from the suspects, believed to be part of the ransom collected.
Bakori commended the operatives for their “professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision” and acknowledged the role of technical support provided by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
He reiterated that the Command, under the IGP’s strategic guidance, “will remain relentless in its fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes,” warning that Kano would remain unsafe for criminals.
He urged parents to monitor their children and report suspicious movements, calling for continued public support with credible information. The police added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
